Porcelain Veneers for a Beautiful Smile

One of the simplest and fastest ways to achieve a beautiful smile is through the use of porcelain veneers. Not so long ago, patients who had imperfect smiles simply had to live with the embarrassment. Thankfully, times have changed. Porcelain veneers can conceal minor imperfections in individual teeth or give your whole mouth a dramatic new smile.

What are porcelain veneers?

Porcelain veneers are thin ceramic shells that are custom made to fit over your teeth. While veneers made from other materials exist, porcelain veneers always give the best results because they mimic the translucency of natural tooth enamel.

Each veneer is expertly made to exactly fit your teeth. If you would like veneers on only a few teeth, your veneers will be perfectly matched in color and shape to the surrounding teeth. However, if you would like veneers on all your teeth, you can opt for the shade of your choice.

What problems can porcelain veneers address?

Porcelain veneers are a great choice for a variety of minor dental imperfections including:

How do porcelain veneers work?

When you visit our office to get porcelain veneers, we’ll make a detailed impression of your teeth. We’ll also match the color of your teeth or help you pick out a new shade if you opt to get veneers on all your teeth. Then, the impression is sent to a lab, where your veneers will be made.

Once your veneers are returned to us, we’ll remove some of the enamel from the front of your teeth. This is a necessary step to prevent your teeth from appearing too large. Then, we’ll bond the veneers to your teeth, and you’ll leave with a brand-new smile!

Limitations

While veneers are a wonderful way to enhance your smile, they aren’t appropriate for every situation. In some cases, you’ll need to have work done before veneers can be applied. For instance, if your teeth are more than slightly crooked, they’ll need to be straightened with orthodontics before we can place your veneers.

Additionally, if you have decay or old fillings, those will need to be removed prior to getting veneers. In some cases, decay may be so significant that dental crowns would be a better choice. Dr. Cowdin will discuss the best treatment options with you at your consultation.

How much do veneers cost, and how long will they last?

It’s understandable to want to know you’ll get a good return on your investment. And the good news is porcelain veneers often last 10 to 20 years. However, many factors influence how long your veneers will last. You’ll need to take good care of them by brushing and flossing. And remember that your veneers should only be used for biting and chewing food. If you bite fingernails, pencils, or other materials with your veneers, you will shorten their lifespan.

Similar to longevity, the cost of veneers will vary, depending on the material used and how many veneers you choose to get. In general, veneers range from about $800 to $2,000. In addition to accepting most dental insurance, we offer CareCredit and Lending Club financing to help you pay for your veneers.
